Tzu Chi Medical Foundation has been sending medical volunteers from the United States, Canada, Taiwan, and more, three to four times a year to offer vulnerable residents access to quality medical care that includes consultations, dental treatments, pain therapies, ophthalmology, and pharmaceutical services.

The Las Vegas government is troubled by homelessness. Charities are trying their best to take care of the homeless. Some provide shelters, some cooks hot meals. Doctors regularly open medical outreaches here. But only Tzu Chi provides dental services, while also bringing used clothes to the homeless community.

Fishermen go out to sea under moonlight in San Mateo Beach, a fishing village with 5,500 inhabitants in Manta, Ecuador. Most residents rely on their catches to earn a living, but it's not truly enough to live comfortably. It is ultimately what kinds of fish and how much the men bring back from the sea that determines how well or poorly their families will live in the next few days. San Mateo has one hospital and a pharmacy.

Hope For Home is a year-round service center for homeless individuals which was founded by Volunteers of America Los Angeles (VOALA). Hope For Home opened their doors last year in Pomona, California, and they now provide shelter for over 100 people.

Since 1996, Tzu Chi TIMA has been hosting quarterly free medical outreach clinics with support from local volunteers and retired medical workers at Golden Valley High School in Bakersfield, California -- one of the poorest cities in the country. Volunteers hope to continue to encourage more local doctors and residents to join this community service to expand reach.
